The world’s best regular runs

What the board measures

Why a great XI is not always a great season

Every entry here is a completed season, not a team rating. A side can be drafted beautifully, carry the highest overall rating on the board and still finish outside the honours because it lost a match it was expected to win.

Points count league matches only: two per win, one per no result and zero per defeat. Fourteen wins give a single-season maximum of 28 points. W-NR-L includes the playoffs, so it need not equal half the league points. Ties are ordered by total wins, fewer defeats and XI rating. Identical scores share a rank; chained perfect seasons can show cumulative totals.

The shape of a record run

Selection considerations

A complete twenty overs

Fill every bowling role required by the formation. The model considers bowling strength and depth, not only batting.

Overseas places spent late

Using all four overseas places early makes later overseas cards ineligible.

A finisher, not just a top three

Fill the batting roles as well as the bowling roles. The rating model is not a ball-by-ball proof of finishing ability.

Some luck, honestly

Match variance can still defeat a highly rated side; a perfect record is a simulated outcome, not proof of real-world superiority.

The reasoning behind these patterns is set out at greater length in why a perfect IPL season is so difficult and how to choose the right XI shape.
